Jo has worked for over twenty years in the non-profit sector both in Canada and England. A positive experience as a volunteer in a charity shop after university decided her career. Jo has applied her administrative and finance abilities to many different types of non-profits.
Her most recent experiences include Raincity Housing (provides supportive housing), VSO School of Music (community music school) and Make Way (supports environment and food initiatives throughout Canada).
Jo acknowledges her migration journey was one of privilege, choice and safety. Born in Bexleyheath, England, Jo went to live in Mandeville, Jamaica when she was seven with her family. She then moved to Montreal, Canada when she was eleven. Her parents then got divorced, so she ended up going back to England with her Mum. She lived in Cardiff, Wales while at university there, then lived in London, England for over twenty years. Her sister meanwhile had stayed in Canada after the divorce and ended up in Vancouver. Jo visited many times and eventually did the permanent move in 2007. Jo thinks her migration journey is over now, but found out recently that Málaga, Spain has 300 days of sunshine a year.
