Hamoudi Saleh Baratta is a computer scientist, international speaker, and human rights advocate whose work centres on amplifying refugee voices and advancing inclusive policy.
His deep interest in technology for change began at age 7 when he took the initiative to set up the sole computer in his rural village in Syria. A few years later, he would use mobile technology to show the world what oppression and the Arab Spring looked like from the inside.
Hamoudi has been active with the PeaceGeeks community since 2015, contributing personal insights on the complexities of resettlement in Canada. Now he has joined the team in an official capacity to ensure the far reach and impact of PeaceGeeks' digital tools. In 2025, Hamoudi graduated with a Bachelor of Computer Science from Simon Fraser University, deepening his commitment to using technology for social impact.
Outside of his work, Hamoudi is a proud partner, father to two curious toddlers, and devoted dog dad. As co-founder of the BC Syrian Canadian Cultural Association, he continues to inspire communities to imagine what a free Syria could look like.
After surviving imprisonment and torture in Syria, Hamoudi arrived in Vancouver as a refugee in 2014. Since then, he has transformed his lived experience into a platform for education, empathy, and systemic change.Hamoudi’s journey has been featured in the documentary Welcome to Canada, and he has delivered two TEDx talks that challenge prevailing narratives about displacement.
